Flat, sturdy, no wasted bulk. At 120cm it fits most UK box rooms and works equally well as a desk or a dressing table.

Best for a corner: HOMIDEC L-Shaped — ~£79-£99

Uses a room's corner instead of eating a whole wall — more usable surface per square foot of room than a straight desk.

Worth adding once the basics are sorted: a monitor arm — ~£130 (Ergotron LX)

On a desk under 120cm wide, a monitor arm frees more usable surface than almost any other single purchase — not a starting recommendation, but worth it once the desk and chair are settled.

Cable management — ~£15-£35

A single mesh under-desk tray starts around £15; a bundled kit with ties, clips, and sleeves runs £28-35. Cheapest, highest-impact fix in the whole category.
